Police in Johns Creek arrested and charged a caregiver at an assisted living center with reckless conduct for how she treated a man with dementia.
A police report shows Teretha B. Dacres was arrested and charged at the Sunrise Living Center in Johns Creek on May 8, but she is not named in any online records from the Fulton County Jail.
The family of the man spoke to Channel 2 Action News and claimed Dacres moved his bed away from an emergency call button so he couldn't get help and made fun of the way he talked. The family placed cameras in the room and gave some of the footage to Channel 2.
Video shows Dacres telling the man: “Don’t bother that. Leave that alone. You can try all you want. Stay your behind in this bed.”
After reviewing the video, the man’s family pulled him out of the facility.
“(Facility administrators) said she had worked there five years and nothing like that had ever happened before,” a female member of the man’s family told Channel 2. “I just wanted to make sure that they basically did what they said they were going to do. She came in the room and immediately started yelling at him.”

Police say because Dacres didn’t touch the man, they couldn’t charge her with elder abuse, but reckless conduct made more sense.
“The safety and wellbeing of our residents is our top priority,” Sunrise spokeswoman Jennifer Clark said in a statement. “This is not in line with the high standard of care we expect from each team member. … The person in the video is no longer with the company.”
