Cobb receives grants to protect against attacks, disasters

Cobb County government has received three federal and state grants for equipment to help protect against terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies:

  • $18,800 from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency to the Cobb Police Department's Bomb Team/Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive program to purchase five TraceX Explosives Detection Kits, nine Avon Voice Protection Units for current respirator masks, three Pocket ETK Explosives Detection Kits, a FLIR E8 Thermal Imaging Camera and a Fluke 481 Radiation Meter.
  • $24,500 to Cobb Fire and Emergency Services from the federal Homeland Security Grant Program for 20 items, ranging in price from $60 for six hammers to $4,500 for a swiftwater craft and $5,000 for a tripod.
  • $95,025 from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency to the Cobb Police Department's Bomb Disposal Unit Program to buy a Ford Transit (or comparable) Explosive Ordnance Disposal Response Vehicle, a FLIR E8 Thermal Imaging Camera, Peltor ComTac Headset and related accessories, five WASSP Wire Attack Kits, coils, connectors and wires.

For about $2,000 annually, the county will be responsible for fuel and maintenance.
