The Cobb County government building in downtown Marietta was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after decorations at a holiday party caught fire.
Ross Cavitt, county spokesman, said a caterer was setting up for the party in a second-floor conference room when a heating element for food lit table decorations.

“It was brief, someone grabbed a fire extinguisher and made quick work of it,” Cavitt said. No one was hurt.
This all happened about 11:30 a.m. at the 100 Cherokee St. building while the county commissioners were having their zoning meeting.
Marietta firefighters arrived to assess the situation and reset the fire system.
