Shomari Holmes' 21-month-old son made it a week on life support for before dying in February.
Last week, a Cobb County grand jury moved the murder case against Holmes forward with an indictment.
Holmes, 21, faces one count of malice murder and three counts of felony murder in addition to other charges.
Holmes admitted during an interview recorded on video that he punched the child’s head and ribs, investigators wrote in a warrant.
The boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment of his internal bleeding, police said. He died two days after Valentine’s Day.
Holmes is also accused of using a belt to beat the back and legs of a three-year-old girl and bit her forearm.
According to jail records, Holmes has a tattoo on his stomach that reads "Family comes first" and another on his hip that says "Forceful."
His fiancee Chantelle Driver was charged with child cruelty and child deprivation at the time for allegedly knowing about the beatings and not reporting them.
According to a warrant, she knew that Holmes was “using inappropriate means of discipline on her children.”
Driver told investigators that the 21-month-old boy “was acting lethargic and scared for the last week,” according to the warrant.
A spokeswoman for the Cobb district attorney’s office confirmed Thursday morning that authorities continue to investigate Driver.
Information on their next court appearances was not immediately available.
