An 85-year-old driver was booked into Cobb County jail Wednesday after being accused of striking and killing a man pushing a broken-down car more than a week ago.

Bruce Meacham of Marietta turned himself in to police, according to Channel 2 Action News, about 2 p.m. on a charge of second-degree homicide.

He quickly paid his $4,070 bond and was released from jail.

A second-degree vehicular homicide charge is defined by Georgia code as being an unintentional death.

Meacham was driving a blue 2007 Mazda 3 north in the left lane of Johnson Ferry Road just before 9 p.m. May 1 when he struck two men pushing the broken-down black car, police said.

Robert Matthews, 45, of Phenix City, Alabama, died at the scene. The other man pushing, Kevin Fullerton, 49, of Sandy Springs, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries.
