Two people were rescued Tuesday on Little Tybee Island.

Two people became stranded on Little Tybee Island on Tuesday morning after their canoe paddles broke and they swam ashore, officials said.

Coast Guard Station Tybee Island watchstanders received a distress call at 10:45 a.m. via cell phone from one of the canoers, who said they were stranded and needed help, according to a news release.

Three minutes later, a Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew that was training in the area went to help the stranded people.

The Dolphin crew hoisted the canoers at 11:05 a.m. and flew them to Air Station Savannah, the release said.

No injuries were reported.

The names of the people stranded were not released.
