Classic movie stars to attend Marietta film festival

The city of Marietta recently announced a guest list of stars who will attend its inaugural Classic Film Festival this September.

The three-day event hosted by the Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum will feature classic movies “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “American Graffiti” and “Gone with the Wind.”

“The classic films offer something today’s movies don’t,” spokeswoman Connie Sutherland said. “When you see a movie and you can’t think of any other person that could have played any role, it’s a good movie.”

The film festival will kick off Friday, Sept. 23, with “An Evening with Mary Badham.” Badham, who played Scout Finch in the 1962 film adaptation of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” will read passages from Harper Lee’s novel.

The following day, Candy Clark and Bo Hopkins from George Lucas’ “American Graffiti” will join the festival, after “arriving in style via a cruise-in with Creeper’s Car Club and a bevy of yesteryear driving machines.”

Weekend events will also feature a dance-off, lectures and autograph signings.

“I really think — depending on your age —there is something anyone can relate to,” Sutherland said.

The film festival will be held at the Marietta Performing Arts Center at Marietta High School. A weekend pass will cost $135 and a single day pass will cost $45. Tickets for individual screenings of the classic films, $12.
