Children’s Museum to host new TinyCon costume event during Dragon Con

Parents looking for fun events for their kids over Labor Day weekend can add this event to their lists.

The Children's Museum of Atlanta will hold the inaugural TinyCon, an event that "celebrates kid-friendly comic books and fantasy world adventures," a press release said.

The Sept. 2 event will take place within a mile of Dragon Con, the four-day science fiction and fantasy convention expected to bring 82,000 fans to downtown Atlanta. Many of those fans will be adults, although appearances also include actors from kids-focused shows, such as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

TinyCon visitors are encouraged to arrive in costume. They’ll be able to participate in activities that include building lightsabers, learning the science behind potions from Harry Potter and racing the Mario brothers.

  • Mario Kart Races: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Science Bar with Harry Potter potions: 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Art Studio: Cartooning: 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Build It Lab: Light Sabers: 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Pokémon Hokey Pokey: noon

The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 275 Centennial Olympic Park Drive NW. General admission is $15.95. Babies and members are admitted for free.

The museum also has something coming up for adults. A few days before TinyCon, on Aug. 27, educators and up to three additional guests may gain free entry for Educator Appreciation Day.
