Waleska could use R.M. Moore Elementary School for city-sponsored events under a partnership agreement recently approved by the Cherokee County School Board. CHEROKEE COUNTY SCHOOLS

Waleska would have access to R.M. Moore Elementary School for city-sponsored events and first dibs to acquire school district property declared surplus under a partnership agreement approved recently by the Cherokee County School Board.

The city, in turn, would work with the district on possibly including school sites when planning future parks, fire stations, police precincts, libraries and other uses; and develop methods to work with the school board on the zoning process, according to the agreement.

The city also would provide employees as judges for the science fair, young authors fair, speech contests, Governors Honors and other functions. Both parties would waive the costs of easement-granting to each other and share information and facilities in emergency situations, including road conditions in inclement weather.

The one-year agreement runs through Aug. 17, 2018.
