The Cherokee County School District will require children to attend school Feb. 21, 22 and 23 – days previously designated for February Break – to make up three of the four school days missed in January because of inclement weather, officials announced.

Instead of taking off the full week of Feb. 18, students will have only Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 19 and 20, as vacation days and will have to be back in class Wednesday, Feb. 21, according to a Jan. 22 letter to parents. The fourth day missed will be excused/forgiven for students, though staff will have to make up this missed time.

Families that have already made travel plans and are unable to reschedule are asked to talk to their child’s teacher about assignments and make-up work to be completed when the student returns to school.

Officials decided against alternatives such as using the district’s state flexibility waiver to excuse the four days (bringing the total days forgiven so far this school year to seven), making up the lost days during Spring Break, or extending the school year into the last week of May.
