A 78-year-old woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash in Henry County.

A 78-year-old woman is dead after a crash between a Henry County high school bus and a car, officials said Tuesday afternoon.

Maria T. Timen of Locust Grove was driving a Hyundai Sonata when she drifted off the right side of Hampton Locust Grove Road, west of Wyckliffe Drive, and over corrected, Henry County police Capt. Mike Ireland told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Ireland said she was killed “instantly.”

Witnesses who were driving behind Timen said she veered into the oncoming lane and hit the bus from Luella High School head on, Ireland said.

Four students between the ages of 14 and 17 were on the bus when the crash occurred and they were released to their parents, Ireland said.

The bus driver was taken to a nearby medical center with non-life-threatening injuries, Ireland said.
