The folks at Avalon are getting a jump on everyone else and getting the mixed-use development into the holiday spirit before Thanksgiving.
Beginning Sunday, the 86-acre development in Alpharetta is kicking off the holiday season with a bunch of events. First up is lighting a 40-foot tree.
“The Lighting of Avalon” is an all-day event on Nov. 19, beginning at 1 p.m. It will feature music and live performances, family activities, fireworks and more.

From 1 to 5 p.m., folks at Avalon can make stops along “Activity Row” for face painting, balloon art, photo booths and more. A DJ will also be spinning holiday tunes at that time.
The Avalon Ice Rink also opens at 1 p.m. with a skating performance, and the rink will be open to the public at 2 p.m. The rink will stay open for public skating through Jan. 21, 2018.
The cost to glide on the ice is $18 for adults and $14 for children 9 and under. Those prices include skates. For information on group rates, hours and season passes, visit Avalon's website.
Two bands — “Blair Crimmins” and “Bogey and the Viceroy” — will take the stage between 5 and 8 p.m. for live music. The tree will be lit at 7 p.m., but the party lasts until 9 p.m.
