Deshawn Jones has been named superintendent at Atlanta Trasitional Center.

Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier recently announced the promotion of Deshawn Jones to superintendent at Atlanta Transitional Center. Jones will be responsible for overseeing 60 staff members and 250 male residents.

Jones began his career with the Department in 2006 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison. During his tenure at Lee Arrendale, he was placed on the Correctional Emergency Response Team and was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, CERT Commander, Assistant Commander of the Statewide Honor Guard, Lieutenant, Uniform Committee Member, and Diagnostic Director. In 2016, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Lee Arrendale Transitional Center, where he currently serves.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
