Some roads impassable as Atlanta offices re-open and APS remain closed

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Karen Minton reports.

Atlanta is beginning to gain some sense of normalcy after snow halted operations this week.

The city’s government offices and municipal courts reopened Friday.

But Atlanta Public Schools determined that the roads are still too unsafe to travel and kept schools closed for a third day, a decision that came after the district announced earlier Thursday that it would re-open Friday.

The locations below are impassable, according to police.

· Hogan Road at North Campcreek Parkway

· Sunset Drive at Grant Road

· Avon Avenue from Cascade to Westmont roads

· There is a substantial amount of ice and dangerous road conditions in the 840 block of Clifton Road, which is in unincorporated DeKalb County.

Black ice is also to blame for a Friday morning crash that sent a Fulton County police officer to the hospital with a broken arm and left another driver with a possible head injury, Cpl. Partrena Smith told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

MARTA is operating on a modified schedule Friday.

Zoo Atlanta will remain closed for a third day "due to lingering winter weather conditions," a press release said.
