Atlanta eyes key link to Buckhead trail

The city of Atlanta is working with MARTA on what it calls a “critical linkage for the Path 400 Trail Project” by acquiring easements from the transit agency for a strip of land in Buckhead.

The city would pay the transit agency $176,270 for temporary and permanent easements and necessary right-of-way to a 60,000-square-foot linear path at 650 Canterbury Road NE, according to a proposed ordinance passed Wednesday by the City Council Finance/Executive Committee. The measure now goes to the full City Council.

The path would provide trail users direct access from the Path 400 Trail to the Buckhead Arts and Business Districts and Miami Circle.

Path 400 is a proposed, 5.2-mile trail connecting parks, schools and neighborhoods to the Buckhead commercial core and, ultimately, the Atlanta Beltline, according to the Buckhead Community Improvement District website. It will be paved, 10 to 14 feet wide, for bicyclists, skaters, walkers and runners.

The first phase, from Old Ivy Road to Tower Place is open. The second phase runs from Old Ivy to Wieuca Road.
