Are you eligible for a free or low-cost breast screening in Fulton?

Qualifying women who live in Fulton County may get free or low-cost cancer screenings this month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and year-round at three regional health centers.

Research shows that cancer deaths disproportionately affect women who are uninsured or underinsured, according to Fulton County Nursing Supervisor Debra Dewitt.

"Therefore, Fulton County's Breast and Cervical Cancer Program offers these vital services throughout the year," Dewitt said in a news release.

The program offers diagnostic services and will cover the cost of a mammogram to Fulton residents who meet the program criteria. To qualify, a woman must:

• Reside in Fulton County

• Be uninsured or underinsured

• Be income eligible

• Be between the ages of 40 to 64 years

• Have had her last mammogram more than a year ago.

Program services are offered at the Adamsville, College Park and North Fulton regional health centers.
