The Alpharetta City Council has awarded $75,000 in funding to Arts Alpharetta to create “Miscellany: An Open Air Art Gallery.”

The event, to take place from May through December 2018, will feature an outdoor temporary art gallery of 10 works on loan, extending from Brooke Park at City Hall along Haynes Bridge Road to a new art park on Thompson Street, according to an Arts Alpharetta presentation.

Michael Rooks, the Wieland Family Curator of Contemporary and Modern Art at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, will be the juror for the first event. Sponsorship packages valued at $250 to $50,000 and opportunities for in-kind support will be available.

Arts Alpharetta is a volunteer nonprofit “dedicated to developing a dynamic arts community in Alpharetta,” according to its presentation. Its other projects include the Alpharetta Arts Center, to open in 2019; the installation of public art in the downtown area, and Wire and Wood, a two-day festival featuring nationally recognized songwriters.
