After 54 surgeries, victim of Cobb FedEx shooting is finally home

Christopher Sparkman explains what happened the day a coworker shot him three years ago.

The most seriously injured victim of a 2014 shooting at a FedEx facility in Kennesaw is now home for good, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Christopher Sparkman was working as a security guard April 29, 2014, at the sorting facility when 19-year-old Geddy Kramer opened fire with a 12-gauge shotgun, injuring six people before killing himself.

Sparkman got shot in his stomach at point-blank range.

The Army veteran remembered pressing on his wound to stay awake and get help.

“I knew I needed to call 911,” he told the TV station. “So I could at least last long enough to make the call.”

The 911 call tape has since been released:

Dispatcher: "What is your name?"

Christopher: "Christopher Sparkman. I'm losing energy really fast."

Dispatcher: "Stay on the line with me."

Christopher: "Please tell my wife I love her."

They’d been married less than a year at that point.

In February after the 54th surgery to repair his splintered abdomen, he and his wife heard the words they'd been waiting three years for: "no leaks."

“We’re stronger than we’ve ever been,” Sparkman said.

He has filed a lawsuit against FedEx accusing the company of negligence. The TV station reports that the case is expected to go to trial in December.
