After ice and snow, Cobb road crews have more than 100 potholes to fix

Ice has caused several school districts to cancel classes for a third day.

All but two Cobb County road crews are packing up, restocking gravel and hopefully getting some sleep after ice and snow hit metro Atlanta.

County spokesman Ross Cavitt said those two crews will be on-call to battle slick roads while others do maintenance and clean equipment.

Cavitt said at 9 a.m. that the county received one call this morning of an icy road — Poplar Springs Road in the sharp curve at Wright Road. He said that area was treated Thursday afternoon just after 5 p.m. and again this morning.

Those ice-covered roads have caused hundreds of crashes.

But Cavitt said there’s another issue — actually, it’s more like 100 issues.

He said there are that many potholes in Cobb roads thanks to the rapid freeze-thaw-refreeze cycle the asphalt has just experienced.

He said workers will begin repairing those Tuesday morning.
