Cumming City Hall.

We asked candidates running in next month’s city, school and municipal elections to explain why you should vote for them. In addition to asking them questions about their experience and their stand on prominent issues, we asked some candidates to tell us which television character with whom they most identify. Age: 45

Residence: Hickory Ridge

Profession: Business owner

What experience will help you in office? I've been owning and running successful businesses since age 21. Customer service and working with budgets are the way government should be run. The residents deserve a leader that puts their needs first not someone that looks after themself.

What issue got you into this race? The misuse of taxpayer money that paid for a decade of healthcare for the mayor's girlfriend. Violating the rights of a citizen when he threw a woman out of a council meeting for taping an open meeting that cost the city over $300,000. The millions of dollars that have went to the elected officials and their close friends from the city's checkbook.

City Council Post 1

Name: Chad R. Crane

Age: 40

Residence: Adair Park

Profession: Project Manager

What experience will help you in office? As a project manager, managing million dollar commercial projects with timelines and budgets are a huge part of my day to day. I feel my input within the city can be utilized to help motivate and give a voice for change to the people in our community.

What issue got you into this race? The drive and dedication I have to make Cumming and great place to live and raise my family is my motivation. Cumming has a lot of potential and I would love to see it transform into what our citizens envision.

Residence: Hickory Ridge

Profession: President of PCMC

What experience will help you in office? Starting and running a small business for the past 15 years has allowed me to develop skills that will carry over to being a Councilman. I have developed and followed budgets, managed many projects from start to finish, negotiated with vendors, and developed interpersonal skills to help a wide a variety of customers. In business we must be able to take constructive criticism and make changes accordingly to meet the customers needs, I believe this relates directly to being a councilman. My neighbors should be able to address their concerns and we should see to it that their needs are met.

What issue got you into this race? There is a serious lack of transparency in our local government. As residents of our city we should easily and readily be able to know what is going on within our city. Most people do not have time to do serious research and ask around to find the answers. Through newsletters, social media, updated websites, and email our residents should have all the information they need readily available. I want our neighbors to be able to easily address their concerns. My opponent has been in office since 1969 and that is way too long, we need change and fresh ideas to keep up with our changing and growing community.
