DeKalb County’s government is awarding more than $800,000 in grants to organizations providing services for seniors, children, people with disabilities and more.

The DeKalb Commission voted this month to approve the grants, worth roughly $20,000 each, to 41 agencies serving the county.

The money was distributed based on a scoring system to award top-performing agencies, according to the county. At least half of the funding must be used for programming.

“DeKalb County Human Services has identified terrific partners in our community that meet strict criteria to receive these awards,” said DeKalb Community Development Director Allen Mitchell in a statement. “We are excited to see how these agencies impact the county’s populations in need.”

The money will go to agencies including the Atlanta Community Food BankBoys & Girls Clubs of Metro AtlantaCommunities in Schools of AtlantaCenter for the Visually ImpairedSenior ConnectionsGeorgia Center for Child AdvocacyAtlanta Legal Aid Society and more.

Funding comes from the county's general fund and the Victim Assistance Fund, which is paid for with court fees.
