A development group co-founded by the brother of Atlanta Hawks owner Tony Ressler has filed paperwork asking the state of Georgia to evaluate its “conceptual” plans for a massive mixed-use project in the downtown Atlanta area known as the Gulch.
The site has long been seen as a contender among the city’s potential homes for Amazon’s new North American headquarters.
The Development of Regional Impact filing submitted Wednesday by Los Angeles-based CIM Group suggests the development would include 1,000 apartments, 1,500 hotel rooms, 1 million square feet of retail space and 9.35 million square feet of office space.

A then-unnamed group made a similar filing with the city of Atlanta last month.
“The property proposes a development over structured parking to create a robust transit-oriented development adjacent to two MARTA stations,” the filing said.
The state of Georgia delivered its bid for Amazon’s North American headquarters project, dubbed HQ2, last month. The a 50,000 jobs bonanza that could total more than $5 billion in new investment.
Amazon has said it requires up to 8 million square feet of office space on property with direct transit connections that also is within 45 minutes of an airport.
The Gulch property would fulfill all those requirements.
