An Indiana man has been indicted on a vehicular homicide charge and two counts of hit and run in the September death of a 2-year-old.

A Henry County grand jury on Thursday charged Michael Sexton, 26, of Connersville, Ind., with killing Leena Guidot after the stolen truck he was allegedly driving crashed into a SUV in which the toddler was riding south on I-75.

Authorities accused Sexton of then fleeing the scene of the Sept. 12 accident.

A second person, William Helm, who was allegedly a passenger in the car with Sexton, was charged earlier with willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.

Guidot, who was in a car seat when the crash occurred -- part of a four-car chain reaction -- was taken to hospital and later died from her injuries.

Guidot’s mother, Courtney Music, suffered fractured ribs in the crash. Her 5-year-old brother, whose name was not released, also was injured.

The family was returning to their home in Tarpon Springs, Fla, after fleeing hurricane Irma, when the crash occurred, the Henry County District Attorney’s office said Thursday.

In addition to the vehicular homicide and hit-and-run charges, Sexton also faces a charge of theft by receiving a stolen vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
