Gwinnett holding poll worker hiring events, needs Spanish speakers

Gwinnett County is holding a pair of hiring events this week for poll workers — and especially ones that speak Spanish.

The first event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at OneStop Norcross, 5030 Georgia Belle Court, Norcross. The second will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at OneStop Centerville, 3025 Bethany Church Road, Snellville.

Officials are looking for potential poll workers of all backgrounds but has an "urgent" need for bilingual workers that speak Spanish. A mandate handed down in 2016 by the U.S. Census Bureau requires Gwinnett to offer all voter materials and assistance in Spanish.

Gwinnett County elections director Lynn Ledford said the county is shooting to find 350 bilingual poll workers for the upcoming election season, which starts with primaries on May 22.

The jobs are paid and range from $75 to $300 per day, depending on position.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, Gwinnett County residents and at least 16 years old, and must bring documents to verify their identity and legal authorization to work in the United States. Applications can also be submitted on gwinnettcountyjobs.com before the events.
