DeKalb approves Pleasantdale Park sale to school system

DeKalb commissioners have agreed to sell a 7.35-acre chunk of Pleasantdale Park to the school system, which plans to build an elementary school on the site.

Commissioners approved the $3,226,650 deal with the DeKalb County Board of Education after meeting in executive session on Tuesday. The sale represents about a fourth of the 24-acre park in Doraville and will become the site of a new building for Pleasantdale Elementary School.

The county will use a portion of the proceeds to purchase from the school district 2.4 acres at Margaret Harris Comprehensive School at a cost of $250,000 and and 2.8 acres at Rehoboth School Park for $280,000. These transactions will partially offset the purchase price of the Pleasantdale Park tract.

Another $180,000 will be set aside for construction of a parking lot at Pleasantdale that will be used jointly by the school and the park, and $500,000 is reserved for improvements at the remaining acreage of Pleasantdale Park. The $2 million balance will be distributed across the county for parks and transportation projects.
