The city of Atlanta extended a hand to the people of Lodz, Poland, Tuesday in a deal to promote trade, tourism and investment.
Mayor Kasim Reed signed a letter of intent with Hanna Zdanowska, the mayor of Lodz, to create a partnership between the two cities on innovation, cultural and academic enhances and trade, tourism and investment.
The deal is a result of a trade mission to Poland in 2013, the mayor’s office said.
Lodz, located in central Poland, is the nation’s third largest city with a population of about 715,000 people.
Tuesday agreement is the second this month between Atlanta and a foreign city. Reed agreed to a partnership on Oct. 6 between Cape Town, South Africa, and Atlanta. Reed and Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille signed letters of intent to establish the two cities as gateways for U.S.-Africa relations.
