Gwinnett County students outpace state in SAT scores

Gwinnett County public school students, on average, performed better than students in most districts statewide last school year on the SAT, according to data released Tuesday by state education department officials.

The mean SAT score in Gwinnett was 1084 out of a maximum score of 1600, which was 24 points higher than the national average and 34 points higher than the state’s mean score of 1050, school district officials said.

Buford city school district students fared even better, with a mean score of 1157, the highest in the state, the data showed.

The College Board made content and scoring changes to the SAT in 2016. Fewer Georgia students are taking the redesigned test. Gwinnett, the state’s largest school district, had nearly 8,000 test takers. Cobb County was second, with about 4,700 test takers.

The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology had the highest mean SAT score, at 1315.
