Atlanta school ethics panel dismisses complaint against Amos

The Atlanta Board of Education’s ethics commission on Tuesday dismissed a complaint against board member Byron Amos.

The independent ethics panel met for less than an hour to review and then dismissed the complaint filed by Amos’ December runoff election opponent, Keisha Carey.

Carey, whom Amos defeated by about 70 votes, contended in a complaint filed earlier this month that Amos was ineligible to be a candidate in the election and also alleged he was "unethical" and "incompetent." She cited a handful of allegations and referenced DeKalb County misdemeanor charges filed in 2000, which Amos said were thrown out.

The ethics panel determined the complaint did not warrant further review, according to Pierre Gaither, the board’s interim executive administrator.
