5 ways to party like a VIP in Atlanta

There's no shortage of widely-publicized things to do in Atlanta, but sometimes that open invitation, "come one, come all" option just doesn't cut it.

For those wanting that VIP treatment on occasion, you don't have to be a celebrity to enjoy special perks and VIP access in Atlanta if you know where to look.

There's a secret (until now) list of alternatives that add that sense of exclusivity.

Here are a few of those options:

Soothing sounds in an intimate setting: Sofar

Sofar offers an interesting twist on live music, comedy and other performance arts. It hosts what it bills as "intimate events" that are held in unique spaces. Up-and-coming artists perform in venues such as people's homes, creating an exclusive, intimate atmosphere.

You'll apply to attend a show in the city of your choice – including Atlanta – and if you're accepted, you'll receive information about the artist and venue the day before. You can also apply to perform at or host a Sofar event if you're interested.

Platinum-plated concert experience: VIP Nation

Operated by Live Nation, VIP Nation offers several different concert packages that give you preferred seating, special access and VIP treatment.

For example, if you buy a Platinum Bow Package for the Sia concert on Nov. 1 at Philips Arena, you'll receive a front-row ticket, backstage tour and souvenirs, as well as access to a VIP pre-show lounge with hors d'oeuvres, a DJ, an open bar and more.

The suite life: Georgia Dome Annual Club Seat or Suite Memberships

For the final year at the Georgia Dome, you can enjoy special privileges with an annual club seat, which gives you access to Dome finale events, sideline views in cushioned seats with extra legroom, access to a club lounge that has upscale concession options and invitations to exclusive events. Suite memberships also include access to suites that accommodate up to 24 guests, in-suite catering, wet bar options and more.

Events include Atlanta Falcons and Georgia State games, as well as concerts and events such as Monster Jam and the Peach Bowl.

Find these 'secret' speakeasies

Several Atlanta bars and restaurants have 'secret' rooms that serve as speakeasy-style rooms. Circle around back of El Ponce after 10 p.m. to indulge your inner lust for local dive bars and dancing. Find the painted door then step inside where you'll be lucky to grab a seat but happy to stand and enjoy their cheap drinks.

Muss & Turner's in Smyrna houses Eleanor's, which is disguised as a metal walk-in cooler door. The restaurant's regulars know they can go here for a drink and snack.

Take your flight to the next level : Priority Pass Lounges at Hartsfield-Jackson

Flying has lost some of its luster over the years as crowds and delays have grown, making it less of a luxurious experience and more of a hassle. The next time you fly, you might want to skip some of the crowded seating areas in the airport and head to a Priority Pass lounge at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

You'll be able to enjoy free refreshments, newspapers and magazines, as well as telephone, fax and Wi-Fi. Watch TV while you wait, and keep up with flight information on monitors in the lounge.
