For the second time on Friday, a child was hit and killed in DeKalb County, officials confirmed.

A 2-year-old boy was struck by a car Friday evening on Gresham Road, DeKalb County police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said.

The boy was identified as Jeremiah Givens, according to DeKalb police.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died, she said.

The driver remained on scene.

“Early reports are that the child went into the road,” Campbell said. “It is too early to say if there will be charges against the driver.”

In the first such incident Friday, Tluang Tha Men, 8, died hours after she and her mother, Dawt Chin Sung,  were hit by a car while crossing Rays Road at Central Drive to get on a DeKalb County school bus, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Charges against 38-year-old driver Ejigayheu H. Tsegaye were pending.

No other information was released in either case.
