An Atlanta middle school student who was rushed to the hospital Wednesday admitted to officials that she’d taken Xanax and smoked marijuana.

The eighth-grader at Young Middle School, who has not been named, faces disciplinary action, Atlanta Public Schools spokeswoman Pat St. Claire said.

A second student was also taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and two others were checked by paramedics at the school.

According to Channel 2 Action News, officials initially didn’t know what was wrong with the students or that one of them had taken drugs.

Paramedics thought they’d injected themselves with a substance, the news station reported.

It was later confirmed the student ingested a “controlled substance.” The teen later said it was Xanax. She also said she smoked marijuana.

“The student’s behavior was not typical and when questioned admitted taking the substance,” St. Claire said.

School officials have not said what disciplinary action they will take against the student.

“The APS Police Department is investigating the matter to determine if charges should be filed,” St. Claire said.
