Police confirmed Monday that a decomposing body found Saturday was that of a woman who was reported missing from a north Cobb County neighborhood two days earlier.

Melissa Fisher, 38, of Acworth, was reported missing Sept. 21, Acworth police Capt. Mark Cheatham said in a news release. She did not live at the home.

About 9 a.m. Saturday, a resident of a home in the 4500 block of Baker Grove Road discovered the woman’s body in the backyard, according to police.

Authorities are working to determine the cause of death, but Cheatham said “there were no obvious signs of foul play and it is believed that recent drug usage may have contributed to her death.”

An autopsy is being conducted by the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
