UGA student ‘Sheriff Longmire’ calls for help solving murder

A University of Georgia student was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer after he called 911 and asked for help solving a murder, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

Aaron Patrick Rzucidlo, 20, told dispatchers Saturday he was “Sheriff Longmire” and he required Deputy Ferguson and backup in reference to an unsolved murder case.

When officers arrived, Rzucidlo gestured toward a group of people and said they shot someone, Officer Andy Norton wrote in the report. The student, who was wearing a pink coral shirt and orange and white cap, appeared under the influence to the officer.

“I am familiar with a television show on Netflix titled “Longmire,” in which the Sheriff Walt Longmire and Deputy Ferguson are fictional characters,” Norton wrote. “This knowledge and Aaron’s level of intoxication led me to seriously doubt his credentials as a law enforcement officer.”

Rzucidlo told police he still needed backup and did not have his badge with him. When asked for identification, Rzucidlo pulled out two driver’s licences, quickly tucking one behind the other. He told the officer he used the first ID to get into bars.

That’s when officers arrested Rzucidlo on charges of impersonating an officer, unlawful conduct during a 911 call by making a false report and underage consumption of alcohol.
