The Butts County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a false “breaking news” story on Facebook.

The Butts County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a false “breaking news” story on Facebook.

Today in fake news: A Facebook link/preview that tells of multiple fatalities in a “fiery wreck in Butts County” is false, the sheriff’s office said in an online post Wednesday.

“This is FALSE information,” according to the Facebook post by Sheriff Gary Long’s office. “We are being told that the link on Facebook may be some type of virus.

“PLEASE DO NOT click on or ‘share’ the link as it apparently hacks your Facebook account after doing so.”

The headline in the link reads, “2 moms, 5 kids killed in car crash in Butts County,” according to a screenshot in the Macon Telegraph.
