Police have identified a suspect in a domestic incident in northwest Atlanta that involved two vehicles and prompted an off-duty sheriff’s deputy to fire his gun.

Kennon Browning, 34, is wanted on several charges in Thursday’s incident in the area of Joseph E. Lowery and Joseph E. Boone boulevards, police Officer Lisa Bender said Saturday in a statement.

Charges against Browning are aggravated assault, kidnapping, hijacking a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and aggravated stalking, according to Bender.

“At this time investigators are attempting to locate Mr. Browning,” Bender said.

No one was hit in the shooting, but a woman involved in the dispute was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with a head injury, officials said.

About 8:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to investigate a fight with a weapon.

“Our preliminary investigation suggests that the female victim was in a vehicle with her boyfriend when a physical altercation ensued, prompting the female to exit the vehicle,” she said.

When the woman got out of the vehicle, she flagged down another driver “telling him that her boyfriend was trying to kill her,” Bender said.

The woman got into the other driver’s car and they headed east on Joseph E. Boone toward Northside Drive. Browning followed them, police said.

At some point, the Fulton County deputy intervened, Bender said.

GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said Browning had a weapon, and the deputy “gave multiple verbal commands for the subject to drop his weapon.”

The deputy fired at Browning, who drove away from the scene, Miles said. The car was recovered.
