Amid frigid temps, Gov. Deal issues emergency declaration

Police say customer punches clerk, drops phone during store argument

Highlights

The incident was at a beauty supply store in Gwinnett County.

Police were able to ID the customer when her phone fell during the clash.

A confrontation between a customer and the owner of Venus Beauty Supply in Gwinnett County led to punches and criminal charges, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Customer Melissa Roper didn’t like the price of a weave, or the customer service, so she threw the product at an employee — who threw it right back at her, as surveillance video showed.

The clerk followed the mother and her daughter, and the video shows the customer throwing a couple of punches on her way out of the store, the news station reported.

Workers said the angry customer also threatened more violence.

“I tried to stop her. She said, ‘Stop doing it, I don’t want to hurt you, I don't want to bring my gun,’” the store owner’s husband said.

When Duluth police investigated, they saw a phone drop to the ground in the video. They say it’s Roper’s phone, which they used to identify her and to find out that she lives in Columbia, S.C. She was charged with battery, though she’s still at large.

“It's just a matter of time before she gets stopped or turns herself in,” police spokesman Ted Sadowski said.
