Police said she was kidnapped; now she’s wanted in an armed robbery

Highlights

Authorities initially were told Christina Day was kidnapped.

Investigators said they discovered she knew the man and pre-planned an armed robbery.

Day and Timothy Wingfield are wanted on car theft and armed robbery charges.

A woman initially believed to be a kidnapping victim is now a suspect in a planned armed robbery at a Gwinnett County motel last week, police said.

Christina Day was thought to have been kidnapped at gunpoint Wednesday by Timothy Wingfield from the Crossland Economy Studios motel, Gwinnett police Sgt. Jake Smith said.

But the lead investigator said he discovered the two knew each other, plotted the robbery and stole a car belonging to Day’s friend, with whom she shared a motel room.

About 2 a.m., Day and a friend were inside the room when a gunman, now identified as Wingfield, demanded their belongings, took Day and stole the car, police said. The car was found three hours later in Chamblee.

The friend ran to a Waffle House to call authorities.

Day, 20, and Wingfield, 30, both of Atlanta, now face armed robbery and car theft charges. Wingfield also faces charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Their whereabouts are unknown.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gwinnett police at 770-513-5700. Tipsters can remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at 404 577-8477.
