Gwinnett County police on Tuesday released a sketch of an unidentified woman whose skeletal remains were found in a suitcase along I-985 last July.

After the remains were examined by a forensic anthropologist, police learned more about the woman, Cpl. Michele Pihera said Tuesday.

Authorities discovered the woman was about 20-29 years old and probably Asian Indian or Eastern Indian. Police also said the victim was 5-foot-1 to 5-foot-5, had some spinal fusion with slight Scoliosis, and had signs of healed left side rib injuries.

The woman died in early 2016 based on the decomposition, Pihera said.

So far, several tips received by police have failed to help identify the woman’s remains, police said.

The remains do not match with any current Gwinnett missing persons cases, Pihera said.

“By figuring out who this victim is, we can try to determine the circumstances in which her body was abandoned along I-985,” Pihera said.

“We feel confident that a family somewhere is missing this young woman. By identifying her, we can try to bring closure to a family while trying to solve this crime.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact police at 770-513-5300.
