Two days after Deante Benton was shot and killed at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex, police believe they’ve identified a person who may be connected to the crime.

Atlanta police are searching for Mariol Rawls, who is being referred to as a person of interest, Sgt. John Chafee said. Police have not released any further details on Rawls.

Benton was celebrating his 29th birthday Sunday when he was shot and killed at the apartment complex on the 2000 block of Bent Creek Way, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Benton, a father of four, was shot in his head and torso and died at the scene, Chafee said. A second victim had gunshot wounds to both legs and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Police told Channel 2 Action News the shooting may have began as an argument.
