A Lyft driver said she “was scared to death” when a man retrieved his gun and opened fire after a dispute over a canceled ride.

According to a Henry County police report, the man said he felt threatened and fired one round into the ground to get the driver to leave his property.

The man was not arrested and the driver was not injured, but Lyft officials called the incident “incredibly concerning” and “deactivated the passenger” from the ride-sharing service.

In an interview with Channel 2 Action News, the driver said she was scheduled to pick up a woman named Celeste from a Creek Cove home in Ellenwood at 7 a.m. July 19.

But when she got to the residence, “a big guy” came out instead and told her “to cancel the ride.”

The driver, who asked not to be identified for safety concerns, told police she demanded the man cancel the ride himself so she could collect the cancellation fee.

“He said, ‘I got you. I‘ll get you,’” the driver told Channel 2.

At that point, the man went inside and returned with the gun, police said. While the man told police he fired one round, the driver said “at least five shots” were fired.

“Even if you were trying to scare me, why would you do that?” the driver, a widowed mother of three, asked.

The incident remains under investigation.

“We are ready to assist law enforcement,” Lyft said in a statement.
