Aaron DeGourville was hit on Ga. 369 in Forsyth County, the GSP said.

A former Forsyth County employee was charged with several offenses.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper was injured Monday in Forsyth County when he was hit by a DUI suspect, the agency said.

Trooper Aaron DeGourville, 35, was directing traffic on Ga. 369 about 6:30 a.m., the GSP said Tuesday in a news release. He was west of Bannister Road while a tow truck loaded a disabled vehicle.

An eastbound BMW driven by David Sommer, 44, of Cumming, hit DeGourville, the GSP said. The trooper’s left leg was broken between the ankle and knee.

DeGourville, who graduated from trooper school in March 2016, is recovering after surgery.

Sommer, 44, resigned Tuesday from his job in the Forsyth County Department of Water and Sewer, county spokeswoman Jodi Gardner said. He was a meter reader and had been with the department since October 2014.

Sommer also was a deputy in the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office in the 1990s, Gardner said.

He was charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to obey an authorized person directing traffic and serious injury by vehicle, according to the GSP.
