Two days after a woman was knocked into a ditch and left dead on the side of a Georgia highway, a Gainesville woman faces felony vehicular homicide charges in her death.

Rachel Elizabeth Bond, 25, was arrested Sunday morning, the Georgia State Patrol said.

She is accused of driving a 2010 Dodge Charger into Brenda Kaye Turpin, 41, as she was walking on the south shoulder of Ga. 323 at about 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

Bond, who was heading east on the highway, was trying to negotiate a curve and failed to stay in her lane, the GSP said.

She left the scene of the crash after hitting Turpin, of Gillsville, the GSP said.

Bond faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash, failure to report an injury crash and failure to maintain a lane.
