A Georgia high school basketball coach has been arrested after authorities said he had “unwanted sexual contact” with a student.

The incident involving Chestatee High School girls basketball coach Webster Demetrius Daniel, 42, occurred Thursday, according to Hall County sheriff’s Lt. Scott Ware.

“Investigators with the sheriff’s office opened a criminal investigation on the same day after the matter was referred by school administrators,” he said.

Hall County Schools on Friday suspended Daniel, who also taught at the school, a district official told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He later submitted a letter of resignation, according to the school system.

Warrants charging Daniel with felony sexual assault against a student and misdemeanor sexual battery were obtained Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.

He was arrested the same day at a residence in the 4700 block of Autumn Rose Trail in Oakwood, and booked in the Hall County Jail, Ware said.

Daniel was released after posting bail, according to the sheriff’s office.
