Six months after a crash killed four of her University of Georgia classmates, the survivor has been released from the Shepherd Center.
Agnes Kim, 22, of Snellville was released Wednesday from the rehab center, where she has been recovering from a brain injury. Her daily rehabilitation will continue at Shepherds Pathways in Decatur, the center said.
“Ms. Kim’s family is grateful for the outpouring of support from the community,” the Shepherd Center said in an emailed statement. “However, they continue to request privacy.”
Kim was critically injured in the April 27 crash in Oconee County. A Brookwood High School graduate, Kim was driving a Toyota Camry northbound on Ga. 15 when she crossed the center line and drove into the path of a Chevrolet Cobalt, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The driver of the Chevrolet, Abby Short, was injured, but was treated and released from the hospital the following morning.
Three passengers in the Toyota died at the scene of the wreck and the fourth died at the hospital. The crash killed all four passengers in Kim’s car: Kayla Leigh Canedo, 19, of Alpharetta; Brittany Katherine Feldman, 20, of Alpharetta; Christina Devon Semeria, 19, of Milton; and Halle Grace Scott, 19, of Dunwoody.
Still comatose, Kim was moved May 12 to the Shepherd Center. Weeks later, she emerged from the coma, friends posted on her You Caring page. Two days later, Kim was awarded her marketing degree by the University at spring graduation ceremonies.
In September, a video posted on the You Caring page showed Kim speaking, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
“Hello, my name is Agnes. Thank you for praying for me. I am getting better. Thank you. I love you all,” Kim said and then smiled.
No charges have been filed in the crash. A message left for the Oconee County District Attorney was not immediately returned Thursday afternoon.
