Best orchards to pick apples in North Georgia this fall


Fall is on the horizon, and there is no shortage of things to do in and around the Atlanta area in the autumn months. Attending festivals, picking apples and observing the Georgia leaves change this fall are high on the list.

For those Georgians looking to check apple picking off the list, here's where to find the best orchards to pick apples this fall: 

B.J. Reece Orchards. You-pick season continues through Oct. 29, but call after Oct. 30 to be sure. 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. Weekdays, $2 admission for everyone 2 and over; weekends, $5 admission for everyone 3 and over includes cow milking and pig races. R&A Orchards. Pick-your-own apple season continues through the end of September, weekends only. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Free admission. $8 and $16 bags. Market open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. 5505 Ga. 52 East, Ellijay. 706-273-3821, randaorchards.com

Hillcrest Orchards. Apple Pickin’ Jubilee is every Saturday and Sunday in September and October, with pick-your-own apples, live country music, pig races, cow milking, wagon rides, pony rides, bungee jumping and other activities. $12. Red Apple Barn at Little Bend Orchard. For $7, you get wagon rides, cornhole, horseshoes and pick-your-own apples Saturday and Sundays in September and October. Additional apple prices are: $4 quarter peck, $6 half peck, $12 peck.
