James Cameron settles ‘Titanic’ door debate once and for all

10 Things You Never Knew about the Film “Titanic”

It’s one of the questions that has been asked about “Titanic” for 20 years: Why didn’t Jack get on the door with Rose?

Director James Cameron has the answer, and it is a simple one, Entertainment Tonight reported.

"And the answer is very simple because it says on page 147 [of the script] that Jack dies. Very simple ...," Cameron told Vanity Fair.

Cameron said that he is surprised that people are still asking the question after two decades.

“But it does show that the film was effective in making Jack so endearing to the audience that it hurts them to see him die. Had he lived, the ending of the film would have been meaningless.”

Cameron had worked with the "Mythbusters" cast in 2012 to prove that the door could have supported both Jack and Rose. While the Mythbusters said that it was plausible that Jack could have survived with Rose on the door, Cameron had said then that either way Jack had to die, and that maybe the door should have been smaller, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"Titanic" is being rereleased at AMC Theaters for a week in honor of the film's 20th anniversary. For more information, click here.
