3 must-try brunch cocktails in metro Atlanta

Sometimes, mimosas and bloody marys simply won’t do at brunch. That’s why the “morning cocktail” was invented, and we think you should give these three a try the next time you have a hankering for coffee, scotch and eggs Benedict.

Cascade Collins

Seed takes a Tom Collins, the lemony gin classic, and gives it a masterful brunch makeover. Brooklyn IPA acts as the effervescent component, with its piney undertones pairing nicely with the gin's botanicals and zest of the lemon juice, creating a bright, crisp base. The rich honey qualities of turbinado syrup coupled with the lushness of cherry heering liqueur bring a bittersweet depth to the drink, which contains all the waking qualities of coffee and healing properties of hair of the dog.

Seed Kitchen and Bar, 1311 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta. 678-214-6888, eatatseed.com. Brunch cocktail hours: 12:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Sundays.

Scottish Breakfast

Brunch at Ration and Dram should contain three things: a chicken biscuit, a seat at the bar and an iced coffee cocktail containing scotch and cold-brewed nitro. Bank Note’s smoky blended scotch and nitro coffee form a solid base. Oat milk, vanilla and honey syrup are swirled together to create a creamy cold sipper to perk you up and settle the stomach after a night of overindulging. The drink is neither too sweet nor too bitter, but instead is a perfect balance of both, with a hint of smoky coffee remaining to the very last drop.

Ration and Dram, 130 Arizona Ave. N.E., Atlanta. 678-974-8380, rationanddram.com. Brunch cocktail hours: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays, 12:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Sundays.

Government Wharf

Leave it to the folks behind the bar at Ticonderoga Club to provide brunch imbibers with a fun history lesson in the form of a cocktail. Government Wharf takes two of Colonial America's biggest imports, aged rum and madeira, and combines them with the zippy bite of Moxie. Fill a collins glass to the brim with ice, stir in a few dashes of Angostura and a twist of lemon, and you've got a boozy soda pop tipple to go alongside your platter of Waffle House-style hash browns and bacon, egg and cheese sammie on a kaiser roll.

Ticonderoga Club, Krog Street Market, 99 Krog St. N.E., Atlanta. 404-458-4534, ticonderogaclub.com. Brunch cocktail hours: 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturdays, 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Sundays.
