Hicham Azhari and Fikret Kovac of F&H Food Trading Group recently opened their fifth restaurant together, The Real Fix Pizzeria, in downtown Roswell. Piazzolo Giacomo Lazzano moved from Palermo, Italy to oversee the kitchen, which prominently features a pair of handmade wood-burning ovens.
The look: Located in a strip center between Alpharetta and Canton streets, the narrow fast casual space is set up with an order counter and an exhibition kitchen in front. The bright design is focused on a wall of lighted block letters with the logo, "Forked. Folded. Fried." Seating is at a cozy stretch of banquettes, though there are a few outdoor tables on either side of the front entrance and a few more on a small deck in back.
The scene: On a recent Sunday afternoon, the dining room was more like a family room. Parents and kids huddled over pizzas and salad bowls, and a few tables were scattered with toys. Meanwhile, Lazzano worked the pass from the pizza line, slicing pies and adding a drizzle of olive oil, as runners kept the orders moving.
The food: As expected, pizza is the star of the concise menu. There are two basic styles ($12). Margherita is a red pie with San Marzano tomato sauce, pecorino, basil, housemade mozzarella, and extra virgin olive oil. Bianca is a white pie with ricotta, housemade mozzarella, pecorino, Parmigiana, basil, and roasted garlic olive oil. Beyond that, you can customize either with a variety of veggie, meat or cheese toppings. Or order a specialty pie, such as the Five Boroughs ($15), with meatballs, eggplant, mozzarella, red onion, tomato and basil. And there are two fried specialty pies, including the Beastmaster ($16), a combo of fennel sausage, meatballs, pepperoni, smoked bacon, mozzarella, gorgonzola, red onion, eggplant, and Calabrian chillis.
The drinks: On the beverage menu, find reasonably priced soft drinks, beer and wine. On the current beer list, there's Peroni on draft ($5), and in cans ($3-$6) the likes of Miller, Bud and Coors light, plus Sweetwater 420 and Terrapin Hi-5 IPA. Four wines by the glass or bottle ($8-$36) include an Italian pinot grigio and a California cabernet sauvignon.
The extras: Real Fix already seems to be doing a booming to-go business. Kids pizzas include basic red sauce and cheese or white pies ($8), or a cheese and pepperoni pie ($9).
