Described by owner Adam Jaffe as “over-the-top breakfast, brunch and lunch seven days a week,” Oy! Restaurant recently opened in Vinings. Chefs Tony Sharpe and Chris Johnson, both Le Cordon Bleu Atlanta grads, are in the kitchen, overseeing a menu inspired by Jaffe’s mother, Atlanta caterer, Sherry Habif.

The look: Situated in a strip center storefront on Cumberland Parkway, the bright, cheery space is decorated in contemporary diner style. Facing the semi-open kitchen, the counter features swiveling tractor-type stools. Other seating options include cafe tables and a row of banquettes along the back wall.

The scene: One recent Saturday afternoon, new restaurant energy was in the air, as Jaffe bounced around greeting customers and expediting orders, Johnson worked the busy pass and Sharpe supervised the kitchen. The dining room was crowded with several large groups and lots of young children.

The food: True to the Oy! motto, "Overindulgent Yumminess," the menu is pitched to the big and rich dishes, served on hub cap-size metal pizza pans. There are 12-inch "extreme" buttermilk pancakes ($9.97-$15.96), "giant" six-egg omelettes ($9.97-$12.97), and a "decadent" challah French toast casserole with caramel sauce ($9.95). Hefty brisket and short rib steak burgers ($8.98-$14.93) come in single, double or triple sizes, served on toasted brioche or challah buns with a long list of toppings to choose from. "Mountains" of fries ($8.99-$10.98) weigh in at two-and-half pounds and are smothered in sauces and toppings.

The drinks: On the beverage menu, find unlimited fountain drinks, iced tea and coffee ($2.19). Spun vanilla, chocolate or strawberry milkshakes ($5.97) are topped with whipped cream and a cherry.

The extras: "Mama Sherry's" desserts include chocolate chunk cookies ($4.96 for three) and a three-scoop "Sundae of Sundaes" ($9.96). Most items on the menu can be ordered online for picked up or delivery.
