Etris Kitchen & Bar recently took over the former Franco’s Italian Tavern space in Roswell’s Sweet Apple Village, with a team that includes former personal chef David Guilford, and Massi Mekhmoukh, a former general manager at Salt Factory and Inc. Street Food.

The look: Located in a shopping center storefront on Etris Road, the contemporary build-out features a slick curving bar with views of the Italian brick oven and open kitchen. Around the dining room, find cozy nooks and booths accented by library shelves and rustic woodwork.

The scene: One afternoon last week, the holiday spirit was still in the air as families with school-age children dropped by for lunch. Around the dining room, several groups of middle-aged couples seemed to be getting a head start on the weekend.

The food: Guilford's dinner menu showcases items cooked in the brick oven, including a selection of 10-inch pizzas ($7-$12). Starters include oven-baked chicken wings topped with Vidalia onions and served with garlic toast ($10). Among the entrees, cedar planked salmon is rubbed with maple black pepper ($18), and Brasstown Beef twin shoulder fillets are wrapped in pecan-smoked bacon ($22). Vegetarian entrees include asparagus and wild mushroom risotto ($10) and baked portobello mushrooms stuffed with vegetables and served on a bed of quinoa pilaf and sauteed spinach ($14).

The drinks: There's a full bar and a small selection of beers on tap ($5) that recently included Goose Island IPA, Jekyll Cooter Brown Ale, and Monday Night Drafty Kilt. The wine list is an eclectic mix of Old and New World selections at a variety of price points, including the likes of Georgia's Frogtown Cellars Vino Blanc ($8/$30).

The extras: The lunch menu, served noon-4 p.m. every day, carries over some starters, soups, salads and pizzas from the dinner menu. In addition, there are hot and cold sandwiches served with house-made chips, including wood-fired prime rib ($11) and Ashley Farms grilled chicken breast ($9).
